As a culture, we tend to be uncomfortable with risk, yet “taking risks is a necessary part of play.” OutsidePlay.ca helps parents and other caregivers to understand how we can harm kids by placing too many limits on them, and how we can increase risky play in children’s lives. Developed by University of British Columbia, the BC Children’s Hospital, and BC Injury Research Prevention Unit.

Developed to help all levels of society improve access to unstructured play. Includes inspiration and best practices for policies and programs, along with research and other tools. Their infographics are really useful!

Green Action Centre - Active and Safe Routes to School

Walking or cycling to school independently is a major milestone for many kids, but has become much less common. Through free resources, programs, and presentations to schools and child care centres, the Active and Safe Routes to School Program helps increase healthy independence and reverse the trend of driving children short distances to school.
